"JUSTICE FOR ARIZONA ROOFERS"
WE ARE A MULTI-STATE COALITION of religious, civic, labor and retiree organizations who have joined to launch the "Justice for Arizona Roofers" campaign. WE ARE ASSISTING WORKERS, MANY OF WHOM ARE RECENT IMMIGRANTS, TO ORGANIZE AND FIGHT FOR JUSTICE at work -- for dignity and fairness. WE ARE CALLING FOR MORAL AND CIVIC LEADERSHIP from large homebuilding companies in ensuring that their contractors provide a living wage and decent working conditions for their construction workers. Roofing workers, in particular, but also all Southwest construction workers,do hot, dirty and dangerous work on homes almost none of them could afford to live in. Major developers, as leaders in the business community and in a prospering economy, have an obligation to ensure that their contractors do not exploit their workers, often the most vulnerable as immigrants and poor families, and instead treat them fairly and with dignity. WHY ARE WE POINTEDLY TARGETING MAJOR HOMEBUILDER CORPORATIONS in our multi-state actions?
WE DO NOT EXPECT ANY QUICK OR EASY VICTORIES. We feel strongly that efforts such as ours are crucial for the future of worker justice work, for the future of the labor movement, and for the long-term overhaul of the economic system that grinds out daily such unfair outcomes and glaring inequalities as those we are struggling against. We invite your help. Si se puede! CONTACTS FOR THE JUSTICE FOR ARIZONA ROOFERS CAMPAIGN: Arizona Interfaith Network
