Justice for Roofers

The Justice for Arizona Roofers campaign is actively organizing among union and other retiree groups as an essential component of our campaign.

As Sy Hubrig, president of the Sun City Union Club at Del Webb's Sun City, Phoenix Arizona, stated:

"We retirees/homebuyers are many and growing in numbers, we are increasingly organized and vocal, and the major homebuilders want to sell us homes. The newspapers say that homebuilders' own market research has concluded that many of us, especially our 'Baby Boomers', value social justice and political involvement.

Builders advertise as "selling a lifestyle", one for "active adults", especially the Baby Boomer generation just beginning to retire. Their own market research shows that many recent and soon-to-be retirees don't want only golf and tennis, but active social involvement, volunteer opportunities and political relevance.

We think retirees will be reluctant to buy pricey homes if they learn that these homes have been built by subcontractors many of whom:

  • hire non-union workers
  • reportedly cheat their workers of overtime and other pay
  • oppress them with illegal requirements to buy safety equipment from the companies
  • treat them with disrespect
  • threaten dissidents with calls to the U.S. INS
